Thyroid Hormone Vs Infertility

Human Reproduction is one of the forms of Sexual reproduction which results in outset of Child with regular intercourse. But these days due to the drastic change in lifestyle 18-20% of couples who are in reproductive age are becoming infertile.The main reason for this condition is cellular functions are controlled by thyroid hormone and due to abnormal functioning of thyroid infertility arises. If this case is not treated then it will cause to infertility and miscarriage.

About 70% of women have low thyroid levels which make ovaries to produce very less progesterone. In India about 30% population have thyroid dysfunction. Hypothyroidism is a state in which thyroid hormone fails to produce many important hormones. Low level of thyroid hormones causes infertility in women and also some other diseases like autoimmune and pituitary disorders also cause fertility problems.

Now a day’s thyroid problem is very common in each and every one. Though there are many thyroid blood tests to detect thyroid, there is no standard test for detecting ovarian tissue thyroid levels. There are many types of symptoms. The symptoms mainly depend on severity in hormone deficiency. For some patients it is asymptomatic. The main symptoms are weight loss or gain, constipation, joint aches, irregular periods, sleeplessness.  Skin becomes thick and dry. Hair loss, disappearance of eyebrows and brittle nails.

The best way of diagnosis is TSH test, chest x-ray, thyroxin test.  There are many ways of treatment for Hyperthyroidism. Treatment mainly depends on causes, age of patient, thyroid gland size and other related illness.

If the case is with Hypothyroidism, replacement of thyroid hormone is the best treatment which is also useful for treating infertility. The treatment takes 1-2 months, after starting medication; TSH levels must be checked to confirm the normal range and the medication should be continued to whole life with cross check for every 6 months.
